Looking Around

Happening Now:

Wondering about how much water we use in The Clearing ...

The Clearing consists of 97 Villas, 1 cabana and a pool, which holds 30,000 gallons of water!
The estimate is about 125 people living in our community! Based on what we know, if every home had all occupants on site at the same time, we would have 139 people in The Clearing!
The incoming county water is used for homes and refilling the pool. It is also used for the car wash.
Our irrigation/sprinkler water comes from an on sight well.

1.  On average, how much water do we use in one year?
     4.6 million gallons

2. On average, how much does a gallon of water cost?
      .00514 per gallon

3. On average, how much do we spend for water per month?
$ 2,025

4. On average, how much do we spend for use of sewers?
   $ 3,300

Residents use roughly 4.6 million gallons of water each year in the Clearing. Our bill, per year, is roughly $66,000 per year. Sewer cost more than incoming water, mainly because of water treatment fees.  An average homeowner in Pinellas County uses 73 gallons of water each day.  This number does not include car wash, irrigation systems or pools. Here in The Clearing, we average 74 gallons per person not including car wash, irrigation or the pool. Our residents are right in line with the rest of the county, but can always conserve when possible.

  The Clearing uses "RECLAIMED" water for irrigation. Our ponds average 25 to 40 feet deep. Sometimes you will smell an odor, similar to sulfur, when the ponds are low. What you are smelling is sulfur. The sulfur bed in Florida is about 15 feet below ground. Our ponds along with the large pond across the highway and the golf course are connected underground via piping. If one of our ponds fills too quickly, you will notice they level out within an hour. Also, in the center of the four-way stop signs at the entrance, about 15 feet deep, there is a lift station. This station will automatically pull water from one area to another, as needed. You might see Pinellas County workers testing the station, as they do each month.
We have little control over the cost of water and sewer but we do have control over how we use it. Remember, you, the homeowner, pays the bills every month. Your HOA is doing everything possible to keep maintenance fees as low as we can. Please use the water carefully and conservatively.
Thank you!
